Headrest adjustment mechanisms

Persons who have significant requirements with respect to the support of the head, typically make use of a modular support system. These types have a very high adjustability and adaptability. Partly due to their operating principle, these three-piece systems come to the highest quality standards. Still, a modular system is in its standard form a static system. It can therefore happen that use undergoes changes since the user slides down or needs to adjust the backrest of his chair; making the head position no longer match the location of the headrest. A sharp reduction in the effect is the result. To handle, for those who are unable to correct the location of the head relative to the support, Focal has developed an assortment of electronic, by the user-operated headrest support adjustment mechanisms, the so-called headrest carriers. This involves systems that correct the position of the head through the modular headrest. This correction can take place in one or more planes:

  • High / low correction
  • Left / right correction
  • Forward / backward adjustment
  • Pivoting

The headrest carriers may operate a single axis, but often it is a combination of axes. The correction of the tendency will be made in conjunction with high / low and reverse correction. Based on his/hers requirements, the user always makes choices dynamically.

Focal also delivers:

  • The controlling head support; a headrest, which makes it possible to control the wheelchair by the means of the turning of the head. The headrest follows the movement of the occiput of the user.
  • The pivoting headrest carrier; the pivoting head carrier is designed for people with severe extension spasms. Given the nature of these involuntary spastic reflex activity was mounting an effective restraint system previously virtually impossible. The head was in the way during the reflex activity and could harm the user, and often did not lock well with the posture of the user after coming back to the starting position. This problem has now been solved by the development of the pivoting headrest carrier. The pivoting headrest provides functionality that is not found in any other product.

Head carrier single linearly
The headrest support allows linear the user to electronically change the height adjustment of his head itself.
Headrest support dual linearly
The headrest support dual linear allows the user to electronically change the height and width position of his head itself.
Tilting headrest support
The tiltable head support makes it possible to support the head in an electronic way to let out a rotational movement.
Parallel adjustable headrest support
The parallel adjustable headrest support shifts the headrest in the forward/backward position, while describing a segment of a circle for correct adjustability.
Scissor headrest support
The scissor headrest support provides a forward/backwards adjustment of the headrest by means of a scissor mechanism.
Pivoting headrest support
The pivoting headrest support makes the swivel of the head carrier during a stretching spasm possible.
Steering headrest support
The steering headrest support allows driving the electric wheelchair through rotations of the head.

All the headrest supports are operable by means of one or several push buttons, or a very light manual switch. An operating system system integrated in the wheelchair control that uses the wheelchair joystick via a menu is also possible. All this depends on the brand and type of electric wheelchair.
